Hello Patty, can you tell us about your preferred sport, volleyball?

I’ve been playing volleyball since I was 14, and now I’m a member of the Leevoc team in Leeuwarden, which competes at a regional level in the Netherlands. I have two roles in the team: left side hitter and middle hitter. We train once a week and we play a weekly match. This sport gives me energy, it puts me in a good mood and allows me to stay in shape. It’s also an excellent way to be sociable! The people in the group get on very well. For example, we began the season by saying we would celebrate each victory by eating “bitterballen” (Dutch beef dumplings, ed). In the end, we always managed to find an excuse to eat them, even after a defeat! Apart from this, I also do XCore and Body Pump sessions at the gym every week.

What does this sport do for you in your daily life?

In general, sport teaches us to concentrate, to work hard, never give up and think tactically. Personally, practicing sport on a regular basis makes me stronger not only physically, but also mentally. In sales, every situation and every customer is different, so you have to stay flexible and alert, and always work closely with your team. Communication and creativity are key.

Do you try to share the values of volleyball with your team at work?

In volleyball you always have to take a chance, even if the probability of scoring is low. This is the state of mind I try to promote in my team. Nothing ventured, nothing gained – you always have to give your very best! Without forgetting to celebrate every victory together and to be of service to others. And finally, always try to look on the bright side.
