IZGAZ launches natural gas safety campaign for blind people

News

After a year of preparation, on October 13, 2016, IZGAZ – ENGIE’s Natural Gas Distribution company in Turkey, officially launched a safety campaign for blind people, that will reach out to people in the Kocaeli province, near Istanbul, as well as in the entire country. The project has been implemented in cooperation with regional associations for the blind and local authorities.   The launch event was attended by blind people from the Istanbul area and their families, various NGO’s working with blind people, as well as IZGAZ employees. During the first part of the event, the IZGAZ team explained how to use natural gas in safe way, and also gathered input about blind people’s needs and expectations regarding safety. After that, the blind people and their families “watched” a film with descriptive audio, providing them an opportunity to socialize and be part of an unusual cinema experience. Tools such as brochures in the braille alphabet, voice records on safety, etc. were then distributed. Following the event, a specially ENGIE branded brochure was shared with blind people all around Turkey. The greatest achievement of this project is that we now understand better blind people’s needs; and can make their life easier with some tools about the use of natural gas. In addition, feedback from blind people will provide IZGAZ with excellent information in order to make processes and services for this target group even better.
