On March 7, and in record time in the country, ENGIE private initiative to interconnect the subway system with Santiago airport and the districts of Pudahuel and Lo Prado via an electric light public transport system was declared of interest public by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile.

The project consists of the implementation of a tram-type vehicle that would unite the Pajaritos (line 1) and Barrancas (line 5) metro stations with the Santiago Airport. The length of the system would be 12.5 kilometers and the travel time, with 8 stops, is estimated at just under 18 minutes.

Next step, ENGIE will be responsible for carrying out the feasibility studies and detailed engineering to finally participate in a potential public tender for the concession. This entire process will last approximately 18 months.

With an approximate investment of USD 171 million, this innovative project for Chile is an initiative that ENGIE proactively proposed to the country’s authorities. Our strategic plan is to identify high visibility opportunities in B2T (business to territories) to position ourselves and serve as growth engines in this segment”.

This initiative is part of ENGIE’s strategic program worldwide to improve air quality, reduce noise pollution, reduce traffic congestion and optimize transport networks. As a Group we have more than 50 years of experience in this segment in which we have successfully implemented public transport systems in cities such as Rotterdam, Paris, Edinburgh, Casablanca and Rio de Janeiro. Soon we hope to add Santiago to this list”.
