ENGIE creating value locally with Biogas – Biomethane offers

News

ENGIE has developed five Biogas - Biomethane offers to create value locally in the drive towards a greener energy, converting waste on site into heat, electricity and high-quality nutrients for farming.   From centralized to decentralized and local solutions, biogas is now a green key driver for several ENGIE customers, helping to respond to economic, social and environmental challenges such as energy and waste handling costs, water treatment charges, hydrogen excess, CO2 emissions, and sustainability in agricultural systems.

Providing a greener energy

Produced from the processing of organic materials, biogas is a 100% renewable gas contributing directly to the decarbonation of the energy mix. Energy produced with biogas, valued as electricity, heat, biomethane, fuel, but also byproducts, meets the Group’s objective to achieve 25% share of renewable energies in its portfolio by 2020.

Direct values

  • Local and environmental energy generation
  • Energy self-consumption
  • Savings on waste treatment
  • Reduction of CO2
  • Green positioning

Indirect values

  • Additional income for marketable by-products
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Raw materials for building construction
  • Fertilizers

Energy independence and efficiency

ENGIE’s biogas solution which produces green energy from cow-produced methane is enabling farming operations to easily and cost effectively achieve energy independence. The high efficiency of digitally monitored waste-to-energy units has been demonstrated at existing installations, with production capabilities of 6-8 million Nm3 biomethane per year based on the digestion of 100,000 tons of biomass per year.
