ENGIE and Wärtsilä have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop solutions and services in the small scale LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) business. The agreement was signed on July 2016.

ENGIE and Wärtsilä agree to cooperate in developing and promoting innovative and operational LNG solutions. To accelerate the expansion of small scale LNG markets.

The partnership will benefit from Wärtsilä’s technical expertise and Engineering Procurement and Construction capabilities and from ENGIE’s technical expertise, experience in natural gas distribution and commercialization, as well as to offer operation and maintenance services.

ENGIE has taken key positions in the small scale LNG market. This agreement with Wärtsilä will help develop innovative small scale LNG solutions with quicker implementation time and enhanced competitiveness”, says ENGIE’s Small Scale LNG Key Program Director, Christophe Rénier.

The cooperation covers four work streams: LNG for ships, LNG distribution in islands and remote areas, LNG to Power solutions and small liquefaction including bio-LNG solutions. Both Wärtsilä and ENGIE are committed to implement for a low-carbon economy. Shifting the focus towards LNG-solutions is an important step in the right direction.

We are excited to work with ENGIE and together develop more sustainable energy solutions for our customers and society. This cooperation is an important step towards Wärtsilä’s goal to grow in the small to medium scale LNG terminal business“, says Alexandre Eykerman, Vice President for LNG Solutions at Wärtsilä.

The MoU is a strong incentive to co-develop technical solutions that would enable both Wärtsilä and ENGIE to expand their small scale LNG business.
