After several years with very limited development, due to the financial crisis that affected Portugal, the Lisbon District Heating and Cooling system (DHC) is growing again, with several new connections on the horizon, such as hotels and office buildings, some of which are already under negotiation. In total, 2 MW have been added to the connected power.

The DHC system is composed of a trigeneration plant – where the primary energy (natural gas) is transformed into chilled water, hot water and electricity, and a network of 85 km of pipes that serves more than 3,500 customers.

The network is currently supplying heating and cooling to 150 buildings located in Parque das Nações, a district which boasts some of the most important city landmarks, like the Lisbon Oceanarium, MEO Arena and the Oriente Railway Station. The most recent client of Climaespaço is the new ZARA megastore, in operation since June. A few other buildings under construction are already contracted, including the extension of the CUF Descobertas Hospital.

Climaespaço was created in December 1995 after winning the international tender for the design, construction and operation of a heating and cooling system in the urban neighborhood of EXPO’98, the international exhibition hosted in Lisbon. Through Climaespaço, we generate and deliver thermal energy to improve the efficiency of buildings and the comfort of our customers.
