Casablanca tram extension: new contracts for our Group!
19/12/2016News
Our Group, via its subsidiaries ENGIE Ineo and ENGIE Cofely Maroc, was selected by the local development company CASA TRANSPORT for part of the renovation of the new T2 tram line and the extension of the T1 line in Casablanca, Morocco. The contracts we signed total 192 million dirhams, i.e. around €18 million.
As part of the project we will deploy the Navineo system on the new T2 line and T1 extension. This system will make it possible to handle real-time operation from the control room, provide information on waiting times and display information for passengers at stations and on trains.
For both lines we will also develop the railway signalling systems (security management for traffic and switches, etc.) and the facilities for video surveillance, intercoms, PA, access control, fire detection, etc.
Casablanca’s first tram line, T1, will be extended by 1.8 km (to 23.5 km and 37 stations) and will deliver shorter journey times. Line T2 will be commissioned in late 2018. At a length of 22.5 km, it will have 33 stations and two connection points with line T1, and will serve 9 districts (i.e. a total of 1 million residents).
The contracts we won showcase our Group’s expertise and its ability to create and develop efficient, innovative solutions for connected cities and territories around the world.
As a pioneer in the energy revolution, we consider transport critical to the development of territories. The shift to transport which emits less CO2, is less polluting and more fluid is essential today, especially in cities, where 75% of the population will live by 2050. To that end, we are developing a consultancy business for urban planning and solutions for collective transport (electrification, signalling, operating support, passenger information).
Our presence in Africa
We have been present in Africa for 50 years, where we deploy our electricity, natural gas and services businesses. We have around 3,000 MW of centralised electric capacity in service and under construction. We are also developing decentralised electricity generation for isolated businesses and rural villages in order to achieve the global target of bringing electricity to 20 million people by 2020. Our Group is examining opportunities to deploy solar home systems and mini-grids, and to accelerate the policy on solarising the power supply for telecoms towers in areas not connected to the grid.
We are also present via our solidarity investment fund, ENGIE Rassembleurs d’Énergies, which invests in projects promoting access to sustainable energy for vulnerable populations.
