Hello Maël, can you tell us about your favourite sport – or sports?

I’ve been involved in athletics since I was very young. My speciality is the mid-distance race, track and cross. This year, my main achievements have been: winning the title of champion of Brittany and coming 7th place in the French championships for the 3000m steeplechase*. This year, I’ve also started doing triathlons and duathlons: this allows me to vary my training and avoid injuries, and above all, it gives me new challenges!

So you’re a successful athlete – congratulations! What do you do every day to achieve such goals?

My daily life revolves around sport – it represents a way of life. I stick to a regime of 10 – 15 hours of sport per week on average. I’m very rigorous about my training: this is how I’ve been able to move up several levels over the years, and reach the level I’m at today.

Do you manage to apply these values at work? Does practicing sport at a high level help you to overcome your challenges at ENGIE?

Athletics and triathlons are demanding sports that require a lot of rigour and commitment to get results. In my work as a business manager, it’s the same! Our customers are demanding, so we have to be rigorous in the solutions we offer them.
I put a lot of effort into sport and into my work: perseverance always bears fruit eventually. And, even though I practice individual sports, I also try hard to transmit the values of team spirit and cohesion to the technicians I coach.

Have you already participated in a Group sports event?

I participated twice in ENGIE INEO’s Run&Bike. It’s always a very sociable moment, and it enables us to meet our colleagues in a setting other than work.

If you were…

A source of energy: The wind – passionate and unpredictable!

A métier of the Group: In charge of institutional relations, I would like to share with the different businesses of the Group because it is by exchanging that we enriched our skills.

Someone famous: PAB, Pierre-Ambroise Bosse (800m world champion) because behind the fantasy character hides a workaholic in training.

An innovation: An innovation that encourages the development of local business and short distribution channels between producer and consumer, and makes them accessible for everyone.

A #hashtag: #TEMPORUNCLUB (a little dedication to my training group)

* The steeplechase is a mid-distance obstacle race in athletics. It is 3,000 metres long. It is a technical discipline, with several changes in pace imposed by barriers and water jumps. The world record for the 3,000m steeplechase is held by Qatari athlete Saif Saaeed Shaheen with 7min 53s 63, achieved in Brussels on 3 September 2004. Bahrain Ruth Jebet set the women’s world record in Paris on 27 August 2016 with 8min 52s 78.
