Our Group has announced the acquisition of Sungevity International, a leading company in the supply and installation of solar solutions for residentials and small businesses in Europe. The enterprise is active in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the UK. With this acquisition, we are taking a major step forward in solar energy.

This partnership, which combines the reliability of our subsidiary ENGIE Electrabel with the technical and digital expertise of Sungevity International, has been a success with several hundred systems installed in less than nine months. This confirms ENGIE Electrabel in its ambition to be a key solar energy player. Our Group and Sungevity International have also started a partnership recently in the Netherlands.

The energy sector is currently experiencing a true revolution in which solar electricity generation has a paramount role to play. It is a sustainable and economically viable energy source, even without subsidies. For our Group, this technology represents a growth driver which is in line with our strategy of developing innovative new businesses in the area of decentralized, low-carbon, digitized energy. Also, the installation of photovoltaic panels represents an opportunity for consumers to generate their energy themselves and benefit from a structural and substantial decrease in their electricity bill.

Today, we are taking a further step forward by purchasing all Sungevity’s European activities from its current owner Solar Spectrum Holding LLC. All 90 employees of Sungevity International are joining our Group from today. Sungevity International will continue to operate independently within an entrepreneurial dynamic.
Sungevity International: a known and recognized solar energy player

Driven by its mission to ignite a “rooftop revolution” in Europe by installing solar panels, Sungevity International has been active in Europe since 2012. The company began its activities in the Netherlands and has now installed several thousands of systems throughout Europe.

Sungevity International aims to deploy the latest technologies, tailored to its customers’ needs. Its web platform and remote offer application allow it to optimize system design and accurately calculate system performance. Continuous remote monitoring of the systems is provided and customers can also digitally track their system themselves.
Philippe Van Troeye, CEO ENGIE Benelux, declared: “The partnership initiated in Belgium with ENGIE Electrabel has already proved that we found in Sungevity International a serious, innovative partner capable of supplying tailored solar solutions to our customers. ENGIE and Sungevity International share the same vision of solar energy. We are convinced that by pooling our know-how, we shall become a leading player with a distinctive and very competitive offer. For ENGIE, the purchase of Sungevity International represents an important strategic step in our ambition to lead the energy transition”.

Jan Slaghekke, CEO Sungevity International, commented: “The values of ENGIE and Sungevity International as regards renewable energy are aligned. More than ever, our customers are looking for integrated, high-reliability and sustainable energy solutions. We have experienced strong growth since 2012 and ENGIE’s support will give us further impetus in our drive to cover every roof with solar panels”.
