Métier BtoB creates a Center of Excellence for data centers, to support development of ENGIE’s entities in this market.

The digital revolution is at the heart  of exponential growth in data collection and processing. Data centers are the core of the infrastructure needed for big data handling.

Many new data centers will be built in the near future: It is expected that the market will expand at a rate of 10% per year. In 2017, the data center market will reach $ 30 billion. Today, data centers are responsible for 2% of the world’s total energy consumption. Estimates predict that these consumption figures will grow by up to 300% by 2020.

This massive growth, together with the energy transition, imposes new and stringent requirements on the design and operation of data centers, which must become more and more energy efficient, as well as being resistant to all external and internal events.

ENGIE is already a key player in the data center business. Indeed, it has a presence throughout all phases of our clients’ projects: from design to operations (including hosting services). ENGIE is planning to further develop this business, on a worldwide basis.

The Métier BtoB has decided to create a Center of Excellence for Data Centers, to support the development of these activities. This Center of Excellence will support all ENGIE Bus, by:

  • Supporting the BUs in the sale and execution of projects,
  • Providing expertise, tools, methods and solutions,
  • Sharing market knowledge (business intelligence),
  • Being a key contributor to the development of innovative solutions,
  • Participating actively in all initiatives undertaken by ENGIE, through the sharing of knowledge (CoP, etc.).

The Center of Excellence for data centers is part of ENGIE Cofely Facility Solutions*, and is led by Pierre-Yves Chouadra.

The creation of this Center of Excellence is a key milestone in the development of this market segment, and the Center of Excellence will boost the already-strong collaboration that exist between experts from different BUs, thanks to the CoP data center.

Some recent success stories performed by the Center of Excellence:

  • One-week training sessions on the Fundamentals of data centers, for representatives of the MESCAT BU and APAC BU,
  • Technical audit and expertise support on Vodafone’s Critical Site in Athens, for ENGIE Hellas,
  • Expertise and business intelligence for Digital Realty Tenders, involving ENGIE Australia and ENGIE UK.
