News

The Global Energy Management (GEM) BU, competing through its trading entity ENGIE Global Markets (EGM), is among the 2016 Platts Global Energy Awards finalists in all three award categories for which it is running. A positive debut for its first participation in this competition!

The Platts Global Energy Awards, organized by the Platts energy and commodity information agency, are an annual rendezvous for energy players worldwide. They are highly sought-after distinctions for utilities, E&P companies, banks, governmental bodies and trading houses alike, notably due to their global scope and high-profile jury members.

Bringing ENGIE’s diversity in focus

The GEM BU operates at the heart of ENGIE to be the interface between energy markets and the Group’s vast range of businesses. GEM has therefore showcased, through its trading entity ENGIE Global Markets (EGM), diverse and innovative developments in the Group’s activities in three categories:

  • Industry Leadership – Midstream, which covers activities facilitating the trading of energy in today’s complex, rapidly-evolving midstream market. Here, EGM has put forward, among others, the continuous expansion of its products range to capitalize on the Group’s asset portfolio and meet the fast-changing needs of external clients.
  • Grid Edge – Energy Management, which highlights products and offers, addressing the new dynamics between energy producers and consumers. Achievements highlighted include ENGIE’s ultra-fast curtailment solution for industrial clients and frequency support services.
  • Strategic Deal of the Year, involving the successful closure of new energy projects by core companies. Here, the focus was made on a new deal facilitating the purchase of natural gas assets by a mid-size E&P company through an innovatively structured agreement.

A global advantage

This first successful step in the Platts Global Energy Awards competition is a good marker, providing extended global visibility. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on December 8, 2016 in New York City; a major industry event bringing a broad range of energy executives from around the world.
